You get a question-by-question route through your German tax return, with explanations and tips when you need them. Instead of working out tax terminology yourself, you answer questions about your situation. You can prepare returns for 2022 through 2025 and submit them to the tax office through the official ELSTER interface.
As you answer, you see an updated estimate of your refund. You can enter your information for free, review that estimate, and decide whether to pay €39.99 to file. Steuerbot reports an average completion time of about 20 minutes, though your own return may take longer.
You can use it if you're an employee, trainee, student, or pensioner with a supported tax situation. You’ll need another option if your return includes self-employment, freelance earnings, foreign wages, agriculture or forestry, maintenance payments, or certain other income.
