PacketWarden

See every connection your Mac apps make and block the ones you did not allow

PacketWarden is a Mac firewall and network monitor for you if you want to see where apps connect, limit their network access, and investigate background data use.

by Security Tech OÜ

What you get

You decide which app connections get through and see what happens in the background.

You get a view of where your Mac apps send data, so you can investigate background activity instead of guessing. PacketWarden shows outgoing connections as they happen, including destinations and data transferred. You can also receive an alert when an app contacts a server it hasn’t used before.

You can cut off an app’s network access, block a domain across all apps, or require approval before any connection gets through. Curated blocking lists help you reduce ad, tracker, and telemetry traffic. When you need unrestricted access temporarily, you can pause protection without deleting your rules.

You can look back through connection history and bandwidth charts to find apps transferring data quietly. Search by app or host, separate blocked traffic from allowed connections, and export records to CSV for review. Your connection history stays on your Mac, with no account or traffic-data upload required.

  • See background connections

You can identify which apps contact which destinations and how much data they transfer.

  • Choose what gets through

You can block whole apps or domains, or require approval before connections are allowed.

  • Reduce unwanted traffic

You can use curated lists to block known ad, tracker, and telemetry destinations.

  • Investigate data use

You can review bandwidth over time, search connection records, and export traffic logs for closer inspection.

  • Keep your history local

You can monitor connections without creating an account or uploading your traffic data.

Best for

  • You want tighter control over app telemetry
  • You need to investigate unexplained background data use
  • You want to watch new software’s network behavior

Skip it if

You don’t need it if you have no reason to inspect or restrict your apps’ outgoing connections.
