prettyJSON for Safari
prettyJSON for Safari is an extension that lets you read server-delivered JSON in a formatted view, suited to developers who inspect JSON in their browser.
by David A. Shamma
What you get
You get easier-to-read JSON in Safari when you need it.
With prettyJSON for Safari, you can turn server-delivered JSON into a formatted view that's easier to read. When you open a compatible JSON response in Safari, you choose when to apply formatting with a toggle button. You can inspect the data in your browser without moving it to a separate formatting tool.
You keep control over when the extension changes the page: it adds no styling or other modifications until you turn the toggle on. Your JSON isn't sent to a server for formatting, and you get automatic dark mode support. The extension is free and open-source.
You do need a compatible response from a server, with the correct MIME type and content-security settings. You can't use it to format local JSON files or pages opened through file URLs.
-
Read JSON more easily
You get a formatted view of compatible JSON responses directly in Safari.
-
Choose when formatting happens
You leave the page untouched until you activate the formatting toggle.
-
Avoid sending data elsewhere
Your JSON isn't uploaded to a server for formatting.
-
Use dark mode
You get automatic dark mode support when reading formatted JSON.
Best for
- Developers inspecting server-delivered JSON in Safari
- You want on-demand JSON formatting without uploading data
Skip it if
You don't need it if you mainly work with local JSON files or want formatting outside Safari.
