choclift

Turn iPhone into a touch bar

choclift turns your iPhone or iPad into a touch control bar for your Mac, giving you another way to open apps, run Shortcuts, and handle common actions.

by Phil Traut

What you get

Control your Mac’s everyday actions with taps and swipes on your phone.

You get a touchscreen companion for the Mac actions you repeat throughout the day. Arrange your most-used apps, Apple Shortcuts, and website bookmarks across up to eight pages, then tap your iPhone or iPad instead of searching through the Dock or menus.

You can also return to recently opened apps without maintaining a fixed list: choclift’s recent-app view updates as you work. Swipe to minimize or maximize windows, or to copy and paste. When you’re typing in a Mac text field, you can use the optional Emoji Bar to insert your favorite emojis from the touchscreen.

You’ll need choclift installed on both your Mac and your iPhone or iPad. It’s a fit if you want to keep a separate touch control surface beside your keyboard.

  • Reach your regular destinations

You can open favorite apps, run Apple Shortcuts, and visit bookmarked websites with a tap.

  • Return to recent apps

You get an updating view of recently opened apps, so you don’t have to arrange that list yourself.

  • Handle actions with swipes

You can minimize or maximize windows and copy or paste using touchscreen gestures.

  • Insert emojis while typing

You can tap your favorite emojis on your phone or tablet while writing in a Mac text field.

Best for

  • You repeatedly open the same apps, Shortcuts, and websites
  • You want to use an iPhone or iPad as a Mac control surface
  • You frequently switch between recently used apps

Skip it if

You don’t need it if you prefer keyboard and mouse controls or don’t have an iPhone or iPad to use alongside your Mac.

From the developer

choclift is the third input device you didn't know your Mac needed. It turns your iPhone or iPad into a touch (chocolate) bar, so your favorite apps, Apple Shortcuts, and website bookmarks are always one tap away. Expect a beautiful design, a satisfying feel, and a few sweet chocolate references along the way.
