What you get

You can join Meet calls and review key points in one app.

Join Meetings for Desktop gives you a dedicated place on your Mac to join and create Meet calls. You can enter a meeting ID or use a meeting link to get into a call, or start a new meeting when you need a conversation. That means less time navigating browser tabs before a client call, class, or team check-in.

You get reminders to help you arrive on time and AI-assisted notes to help you capture and revisit important points. You can also choose virtual backgrounds to change what appears behind you and use a custom avatar so other participants can recognise you more easily.

If you need to join multiple meetings at once, that capability may require an in-app purchase. The app is an independent product, not an official Google app.

  • Get into calls faster

You can join with a meeting ID or link, without navigating browser tabs first.

  • Start a conversation

You can create a new Meet call directly from your Mac when you need to talk.

  • Revisit important points

You get AI-assisted notes to help you capture and review what mattered in a meeting.

  • Remember upcoming meetings

You receive reminders to help you show up on time.

  • Choose your on-call appearance

You can change your virtual background and use a custom avatar to help others recognise you.

Best for

  • You attend regular Meet calls for work
  • You join virtual classes on your Mac
  • You want meeting access, reminders, and notes together

Skip it if

You probably don't need it if joining Meet in your browser already works for you and you don't need notes or reminders.
