File Architect
File structure builder for Mac
File Architect lets you create folders and blank files from a text outline on your Mac. It suits you if you regularly set up projects with similar layouts.
by Sébastien Lavoie
What you get
You get a complete project folder structure without building it folder by folder.
With File Architect, you turn a plain-text outline into folders, subfolders, and files on your Mac. You use tabs to show what belongs inside each folder, then create the structure without repeatedly clicking through Finder or writing terminal commands.
You can start with valid blank documents rather than empty placeholders that won't open. Supported formats include DOCX, XLSX, and PSD, so you can prepare working files alongside their folders before you begin writing, designing, or handling spreadsheets.
When you start similar projects often, you can save your layout as a template and reuse it instead of rebuilding it. You can also use special text syntax to copy, move, rename, or repeat files and folders, reducing repetitive setup work.
-
Less folder-by-folder setup
You create nested folders and files from one text outline instead of building each part separately in Finder.
-
Blank files that open
You get valid blank files in formats such as DOCX, XLSX, and PSD, ready to open in their native apps.
-
Consistent project layouts
You reuse saved templates so each new project starts with the same folder and file arrangement.
-
Fewer repetitive file operations
You can copy, move, rename, or repeat files and folders through special syntax in your outline.
Best for
- You develop projects with recurring folder layouts
- You prepare design projects with blank working files
- You set up content folders for recurring assignments
Skip it if
You probably don't need it if you only create occasional folders and rarely reuse the same project structure.
