What you get

You get a tidier desktop without sorting every file yourself.

You can keep your desktop and folders organized without moving each file by hand. Tell Spotless where things belong using your own rules, then drop files onto its menu bar target or schedule a cleanup. You can group rules into multiple steps to handle recurring sorting jobs.

You stay in control of what changes. Preview a task before applying it, decide how to handle files that don’t match your rules, and choose how conflicts are resolved. When you need a sorted file, you can reveal its location in Finder or move it back to where it was.

You can also schedule file backups to an external drive, with copies organized into folders by type, date, or size. Spotless avoids duplicating backups or individual items, so repeated runs don’t have to create redundant copies.

  • Less manual sorting

You put files in the right folders using rules you define, rather than moving each one yourself.

  • Cleanup on your schedule

You can have tidying run in the background at chosen times instead of remembering to start it.

  • Review before changing

You can preview tasks and decide how unmatched files and conflicts should be handled.

  • Keep track of files

You can reveal a sorted file in Finder or return it to its previous location.

  • Remember your backups

You can schedule copies to an external drive without creating redundant backups or duplicate items.

Best for

  • You regularly accumulate desktop clutter
  • You repeat the same file-sorting tasks
  • You want scheduled, organized file backups

Skip it if

You don’t need it if your folders stay manageable and you rarely repeat file-sorting tasks.
