What you get
You can silence one app without quieting everything else.
You get control over what you hear from each Mac app, rather than adjusting everything together. Mute Slack while your music continues, lower system sounds, or make a quiet podcast louder without raising other apps. Your volume choices are remembered when an app starts again.
You can also keep audio on separate devices: send YouTube to your desk speakers while you hear Zoom through AirPods. From the same menu-bar popup, you can change your active microphone, main audio output, or the device used for system sounds without opening System Settings.
For unusually quiet audio, you can increase an individual app’s gain up to four times, with built-in protection against distortion. Apps you haven’t adjusted keep using their normal macOS audio behavior, and you can return a customized app to that behavior by restoring its volume and output defaults.
