What you get
Keep your attention on the words you’re writing.
Focused gives you a pared-back place to write when menus and earlier paragraphs keep pulling your attention away. You can fill the screen with your draft in Zen mode, accompanied by quiet music. When you want to concentrate on a smaller passage, you can highlight your current sentence or paragraph and dim the surrounding text.
You can also keep the passage you’re working on near the center of the screen with typewriter movement, rather than following it down the page. Markdown lets you format your writing as you type, and HTML export gives you a version for the web without manually adding tags. A word count helps you check your draft’s length.
Your changes save automatically, so you don’t have to remember to save during a writing session. If a revision doesn’t work out, you can retrieve an earlier version rather than reconstructing what you removed.
-
Stay with your current passage
You can dim surrounding text to keep your attention on one sentence or paragraph instead of repeatedly revising earlier lines.
-
Settle into a writing session
You can use a full-screen writing space with quiet music when you want fewer visual distractions.
-
Prepare text for the web
You can format with Markdown and export HTML without adding web tags by hand.
-
Revisit earlier wording
Your edits save automatically, and you can retrieve older versions when you want to undo a change in direction.
Best for
- You get sidetracked by rereading earlier paragraphs
- You prefer drafting in a minimal editor
- You write web content using Markdown
Skip it if
You don’t need it if your current editor already gives you a quiet Markdown workspace and access to earlier drafts.
