GlassFold
Lid Close Effect
GlassFold gives you a frosted-glass animation when you close your MacBook’s lid. It’s for you if you enjoy visual customization and have a supported MacBook.
by ANTHONY ZALESKI
What you get
Give your MacBook a frosted-glass effect as you close its lid.
When you lower your MacBook’s lid, you see your screen turn into a 3D frosted-glass effect that follows the lid’s angle. Your screen content appears to stay in place while a virtual glass lid tilts away and blurs it. The display returns to normal shortly after you release the lid or return it to its starting position.
You can adjust the perspective to match your eye position and leave GlassFold running in the background from your menu bar. To get the lid-controlled effect, you need an Apple Silicon 14- or 16-inch MacBook Pro, or a MacBook Air with M2 or later. Without a detected lid-angle sensor, you can only try the animation on a simulated laptop using a manual slider.
You’ll need to grant screen recording permission. The effect uses a screenshot held in memory; it is never saved or uploaded.

Skip it if
You don’t need it if you want practical workflow improvements rather than a cosmetic lid-closing effect.

From the developer
GlassFold plays a real-time frosted glass animation as you close your MacBook's lid. The virtual screen plane stays fixed in space, blurring as the virtual glass lid tilts away from it. The effect resets to normal shortly after you return the lid to its initial position or let go of it.Read the full description
