What you get

Browse your photos and videos in one place without importing them.

Image Viewer gives you a way to look through photos and videos already stored on your Mac. You add a folder and see its contents without waiting for an import. With folders, thumbnails, and a preview visible together, you can move through a collection using the arrow keys rather than opening each file separately.

You can view common images such as JPG, PNG, and HEIC alongside RAW and DNG files. When you reach a video, you can play supported formats, including MP4, MOV, AVI, and MKV, directly in the preview pane. That lets you review a folder containing both photos and clips without switching viewers.

Your media stays on your device, and you can browse without an internet connection. You also control which folders the app can access, so you can review selected collections without giving it access to everything.

  • Skip the import

You can start browsing a folder as soon as you add it, without importing its contents into a library.

  • Review mixed media

You can view photos and play supported videos in the same preview pane instead of switching between viewers.

  • Browse with your keyboard

You can move through your collection with arrow keys while keeping folders, thumbnails, and previews in view.

  • Keep your media local

You can browse offline without uploading your files, and grant access only to folders you choose.

Best for

  • You keep photos and video clips in local folders.
  • You want to review RAW or DNG images without importing them.
  • You prefer an offline viewer with limited folder access.

Skip it if

You probably don't need it if your current viewer already handles your local photos and videos comfortably.
