octoview
octoview lets you inspect specialized files directly on GitHub, whether you work with 3D assets, scientific data, machine-learning models, or interactive reports.
by Andres Romero
What you get
You can inspect specialized files without leaving their GitHub page.
You get a readable, interactive view of files that GitHub otherwise leaves as raw data or cannot display. Click the added Preview button to inspect the file right on its GitHub page, without uploading it elsewhere.
You can examine 3D splats, meshes, and point clouds; explore HTML reports with working charts; and see interactive Plotly outputs in Jupyter notebooks. You can also inspect model tensor tables and ONNX graphs, preview columnar tables, view arrays as heatmaps or images, and adjust exposure when viewing scientific images.
You can use the same previews in private repositories through your existing GitHub session, without creating a personal access token. Your files stay between you and GitHub: octoview collects no data, and untrusted file content runs in a sandbox without network access.
-
Stay on GitHub
You can inspect supported files in place instead of switching to a separate viewer.
-
Keep charts interactive
You can explore live report charts and Plotly notebook outputs that GitHub’s standard preview leaves out.
-
See specialized data
You can view 3D assets, model structures, tables, arrays, and scientific images rather than trying to interpret raw bytes.
-
Inspect private repository files
You can use your existing GitHub login without uploading files to another service or creating an access token.
Best for
- You inspect datasets or model files on GitHub
- You review 3D assets in repositories
- You read interactive reports and notebooks
Skip it if
You probably don’t need it if GitHub already displays all the file types you work with.

From the developer
octoview turns a GitHub file page into a live preview of the file itself. It adds a Preview button on any blob page and renders the file in place, without leaving GitHub or uploading anything.Read the full description
