What you get

Get back to your recent files without retracing your steps.

You get one place in your Mac’s menu bar to return to files, folders, and apps you recently used. If you download an image and forget where it went, or close something before you’re finished, you can find it again without browsing through folders.

You decide which file types and locations Trickster watches, so your recent items stay relevant to your work. Preset and custom filters let you narrow the list to particular formats or folders. You can also keep frequently used files, folders, and apps in a favorites sidebar rather than relying on them to remain recent.

When you find what you need, you can preview it with Quick Look, open it directly, or drag it to another location. Keyboard shortcuts give you a way to access your items with less mouse use.

  • Return to recent work

You can reopen recently used files, folders, and apps without remembering their locations.

  • Keep your list relevant

You choose which file types and folders to track, then narrow the results with preset or custom filters.

  • Keep repeat essentials nearby

You can place frequently used files, folders, and apps in a favorites sidebar for repeat access.

  • Check before opening

You can preview an item with Quick Look before opening it or dragging it elsewhere.

Best for

  • You frequently lose track of recent downloads
  • You switch between files across several folders
  • You repeatedly open the same files and apps

Skip it if

You probably don't need Trickster if Finder and your apps’ recent-item lists already let you return to your work quickly.
